success 是个抽象概念,无生命的东西,一般不用's 属格
因为是成功“之”母， 儿不是成功母。
之在这里相当于“的"
但是不能说 Failure is success's mother, 因为如果不是人，是物的话，就要用of 代替
比如： Tom is Peter's Father 。 Tom 是Peter的父亲
The door of the class is broken. 教室的门坏了
你这样表达也没有什么错误，但是最标准的表达是failure is the mother of success，我们老师讲过，of和's都能表示所属关系，但是's一般表示无生命的所属关系，所以此处这样比较好。

可能前者比较正式吧。就好像为什么是‘失败乃成功之母‘而不是’失败是成功的妈妈‘。
不过个人还是觉得’failureis the key to success'比较适当哦！
一般只有人物才可以有'S的用法， 如 Tom's , Kate's等等，但也有例外的，
在特殊的语境下，为了行文的上下配合，有时候非人物也可以直接加's的，要活学活用的，
那在这句话中，用of比直接加's在表达上要好多了，
