状语用来说明地点、时间、原因、目的、结果、条件、方向、程度、方式和伴随状况等
你说的into a new prolonged conflict这是个介词短语,into后面的a new prolonged conflict（一个新的长期冲突）是具体方式,但与into组合之后这就是个状语.
如果你理解不了我可以简单的用on the floor解释,两个道理一样.如果只有the floor,就是一个具体的地点：地板,但是加上on之后意思就是：在地板上,很明显的介词短语,也就是通常说的介词短语做状语.
