for any linear function y=mx+n (a=/=0),dy/dx (or d(ax+b)/dx) is equal to the coefficient "m",which is independent from the value of x and is therefore always a constant.
however,for a quadratic function y=ax^2+bx+c (a=/=0),dy/dx=2ax+b according to the power rule.Hence the slope is always dependent on x.As x changes along the graph,the slope has to change as well.
