They may be fee charging (private) or non fee charging (comprehensive).
这个不同于private school哦，并不是绝对的。
Independent school的一些是private school,一些并不是。
在英国，independent school不一定要根据全国的课程教纲走。因此，学校的资金更多的来自各类组织（比如说教堂），而不是政府。这些学校可以是收费的，也可以是不收费的。
我觉得可以理解为“独立办学机构”。
